Dancing Doofus

A couple of days ago I put on a long sleeve t-shirt over my regular t-shirt. A long sleeve fleecy over that and then a hoodie over all of that. I fished my ear bud wires though my hoodie and connected it to my phone. I looked for something I have not listened to in a while and decided on the soundtrack from the movie Saturday Night Fever. Oh and I put on some pants.

I’ve procrastinated long enough – I’m putting up the outdoor Christmas lights.

Why is the atheist putting up lights. Well I have a granddaughter, there are kids on the street, my neighbour put up his, and it does “light” up the spirit. It’s the last year I’m gonna do it – I say that every year.

There’s a big heart on the lawn so I put lights on that. A row of lavender down one side and lights went on that, and a tree. I usually put lights up in the tree which require me to go up a ladder but this year I’m just putting them on the trunk. I don’t have to go up a ladder so that is why I’m listening to music. I’d need all my senses to go up a ladder.

The music is awesome and I start to put lights around the tree trunk and I start going around and around the tree and the song More Than A Women comes on – this is kismet and I start to bust a move – ha. And it’s like I’m re-enacting that scene from the movie. You know the one where they are learning to dance together going round and round and round – this is weirdly fun. I’m dancing with a tree. And to qualify dancing: I dance like I’m made of wood wearing clogs with cement overshoes and that is being kind – but I do love it.

Then Disco Inferno comes on and I’m on the front lawn busting out more moves – I hope no one is watching, actually I hope someone is watching this is a blast. I’m laughing at myself because if someone is watching they’re probably thinking Dave hit the sauce a little early today.

This is the first time I’ve done this while listening to music. I’ve combined something I hate doing with something I love doing. I’ve turned this task into something I’m enjoying. A positive beats out a negative.

Wouldn’t it be awesome if we all could quiet those negative vibes. This accidental music listening experience turned out to be an expression of pure joy. Who knew that after such a terrible year that I’d be on the front lawn having a blast dancing by myself. It really is unbelievable and incredibly symbolic. There is something to be said about being in the moment – best Christmas present ever.

The silly season can be stressful and if some negative vibes start working their way in just put on some music and bust a move. Think about that doofus “dancing” on his front lawn – it sure made me laugh.

Have a great holiday season.

Peace and Love
