Yoga Journey #34

What’s your sign

Conversation starter in the 1970’s? – I swear I never used it..

Astrologically speaking (1), at the time of my birth the Sun was in Taurus. So I’m full of Bull – ha. Based on that the better versions of me are; I’m stabilizing, steadfast, focused, persistent and determined. And my more human versions are that I’m stubborn, rigid, resistant to change, and habit-bound. My Sun element is Earth and my polarity is Yin.

My Moon is in Libra and this represents what’s going on inside. My emotions, my security needs, my feelings. The better versions of me are that I’m easy going, agreeable, and considerate. And the more human versions are that I’m hesitant and I give away power to others. My Moon element is Air and my polarity is Yang.

So just based on where my Sun and Moon were at birth. I’m a determined, agreeable, considerate, habit-bound, stubborn, wimp. That’s pretty close. If you add in my ascendant and my elements I’m also practical, grounded, and sensual. That’s pretty close too. Add in my polarity and my modality and I’m also ingoing, intuitive, generating, active, and initiating. That again is close but age is catching up on me.

About a year ago I started posting poems about the Moon, the full Moon to be exact. Wolf Moon it was and then I started reading up on Moons and realized that there was also a new Moon – duh. I knew that because as an Ashtangi I don’t practice on full and new Moons. But at that time I did not distinguish between the two – it was just a Moon day – a day off practicing yoga, a rest day if you will.

In the Northern Hemisphere full Moons have names that are based on the time of year and what nature is up to at that time. Usually based on Indigenous traditions or what farmers are up to. New Moons don’t usually have names. Name or no name the Moon phases influence what happens here on earth which are visible in nature and felt in our bodies.

That is something we can see and feel. The Moon is close by and visible. It’s a close and tiny example of the power of the infinite universe.

Connecting Astrology and Yoga is easy for me as they are both vehicles for trying to understand who I am. It should be simple to know who I am – right? But it’s not that easy. I spent a lifetime thinking I know who I am based on what I was doing, who my friends were, my job etc. etc. Instead of knowing who I am and growing that essence. I fed the beast and the beast fed me. I don’t think that is uncommon. And I’m not unhappy about my life as I’ve been extremely fortunate and continue to be so.

But no where on that path did I look inwards (2).

My Moon sign, or what I need not what I want, is fed by my practice. And my Sun sign is represented by my determination to get on my mat. My ascendant, modality, element, and polarity definitely live within my practice and emphasize those better versions of me. And as I feed myself I get stronger in understanding what makes me tick. The infinite universe goes on in all directions including inward.

Take care

Google says:
“Astronomy is the study of the universe and its contents outside of Earth’s atmosphere. Astronomers examine the positions, motions, and properties of celestial objects. Astrology attempts to study how those positions, motions, and properties affect people and events on Earth”.

(1) I’m just an interested investigative protagonist that got captivated by Mr. Miller’s morning discussions about Astrology in 2017. I purchased a workbook got my birth chart and worked through the exercises to learn, and I am still learning.

(2) In 1972 I did take some of Timothy Leary’s advice which sent me as far inwards as I’ve ever been – ha
